For Julia Cordi, glass is more than a material—it’s a living language, one she uses to shape light, stir emotion, and bend space. While her work already transforms raw material into mesmerizing sculptural forms, her artistic imagination stretches even further. She dreams not just of glass as an object, but as an immersive experience—a world built of transparency, color, and movement.

“My dream project is to create a massive installation in glass that captures what I love most about Hawai‘i: nature,” Julia shares. “A room that feels like walking into the jungle, a room that feels like being underwater… it’s about creating spaces that make you feel connected to the world around you.”

She imagines glass leaves catching shifting light like a rainforest canopy, or undulating forms casting watery reflections across gallery walls. While this vision exists in the realm of dreams, it reflects the limitless possibilities that inspire her daily work. Big dreams, after all, inform the way we push boundaries in the present. Even though large-scale immersive environments may not yet be reality, the essence of these ideas—playing with light, movement, and space—is already present in Julia's sculptures.

“I’m excited about the innovations in the material as well as collaboration with different disciplines,” she says. The potential of combining glass with other artistic and technological elements—from lighting design to architectural applications—opens the door to new creative possibilities. She sees a future where glass art is not just decorative but immersive, where sculptures evolve into interactive experiences that respond to their environment.

Of course, working with glass at this scale would require a balance of vision and engineering, a deep understanding of how the material interacts with space, structure, and light. But Julia thrives in this space between concept and reality. Her experience with large commissions, from the PGA Tour trophy to custom installations, has given her the skills to bring ambitious ideas to life—even if they start as dreams.

Julia Cordi’s evolving vision reminds us how important it is to dream boldly. Her current work, on view at Wailea Contemporary Gallery, already hints at the larger worlds she imagines. And while those future environments remain unwritten, their spirit is alive in every piece she creates today. And in Julia’s world, those dreams are already taking shape in glass.
