We’re proud to share that Wailea Contemporary Gallery co-owner and artist Sheri Levin McNerthney was honored with four awards at the Wondrous Light juried biennial exhibition, held last month at the Downtown Art Center in Honolulu.
Her handwoven ondule piece, “Solar Windsong,” was inspired by her experience witnessing the aurora borealis in northern Norway earlier this year.
The work reflects her deep understanding of color relationships and her signature approach to the ondule technique—resulting in a piece that shimmers with layered luminosity and movement.
At the exhibition’s opening, “Solar Windsong” received:
– Hawai‘i Handweavers’ Hui Award of Excellence
– Handweavers Guild of America Award of Excellence
– Juror’s Choice Award
– State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) Acquisition Award
The piece was acquired by the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) and will join the state’s permanent collection.
We congratulate Sheri on this richly deserved recognition and celebrate her ongoing contributions to the fiber arts community in Hawai‘i and beyond.
